Marc-Andreessen

Page history last edited by Susan Amirian 2 mos ago

Andreessen, along with Eric Bina created the internet browser Mosaic. It was then released in 1993, but since the two worked on this project in college computer labs, it was the college who owned the program; and therefore the two did not make any money off of it.

After receiving his BS in Computer Science at the University of Illinois, Andreessen went to work as a computer programmer. Unexpectedly, Andreessen heard from Jim Clark, from Silicon Graphics Inc. Clark and Andreessen together then founded Mosaic Communications, with hopes to built a better browser. The name was then changed to Netscape Communication Corporation. The browser from Netscape, called Navigator, made Andreessen a multi-millionaire in just one day. The browser was much more effective than Mosaic.
